EVE Vanguard FAQ
This EVE Vanguard FAQ answers the questions players ask most before their first drop. The short version: EVE Vanguard is a PvPvE extraction shooter from Fenris Creations (the studio that was CCP Games until May 2026), set on the hostile planets of New Eden. The full game is planned as a paid, buy-to-play PC title, but every Alpha playtest so far has been free. Operation Avalon runs 7–20 July 2026, open to everyone on Steam and the EVE Launcher at no cost, so this window is the cheapest way to try it — no purchase, no subscription.
You do not need to play EVE Online to enjoy Vanguard; it is a standalone Windows shooter you can pick up cold, even though the two games share New Eden and feed each other's wars. There is no console version, and no firm launch date beyond a persistent 24/7 Alpha planned for November 2026. New to the loop? Start with the beginner guide, then read up on extraction before you deploy. The answers below cover cost, platforms, timing, weapons, and how ground raids connect to EVE Online.
Is EVE Vanguard free to play?
EVE Vanguard is planned as a paid, buy-to-play PC game, but the Alpha playtests so far have been free to join. Operation Avalon (7–20 July 2026) is open to everyone on Steam and the EVE Launcher at no cost. Fenris Creations has not shared a purchase price for the full release yet.
When does EVE Vanguard release?
There is no firm launch date. The game is in Alpha: after Operation Avalon in July 2026, Fenris plans a persistent 24/7 Alpha in November 2026 through the EVE Launcher, with a wider Steam Early Access phase to follow. The Steam page lists a Q3 2026 window that is subject to change.
What platforms is EVE Vanguard on?
EVE Vanguard is a PC game for Windows, distributed through Steam and CCP's EVE Launcher. No console version has been shown or dated. If you want to play the current Alpha, you download it from the Steam store page or the EVE Launcher during an active playtest window.
Do I need to play EVE Online to enjoy EVE Vanguard?
No. EVE Vanguard is a standalone first-person shooter you can play without ever touching EVE Online. The two games are linked — your ground raids feed New Eden's wars, and EVE pilots can influence Vanguard — but you do not need an EVE Online subscription to drop in and fight during the open Alpha playtests.
What kind of game is EVE Vanguard?
It is an extraction shooter set on the planets of New Eden. You deploy as an immortal Warclone, complete objectives like raiding salvage sites and seizing tech, then race to a Harmonic Bridge to extract with your loot before other players and Nemesis Drones overwhelm you. It mixes PvP and PvE in the same match.
How do you extract in EVE Vanguard?
You find a Harmonic Bridge, activate it, and wait for it to come online before stepping through to leave with everything you have gathered. Orbital bombardment shuts these bridges down one by one as the deployment goes on, so the longer you stay, the fewer exits you have and the more dangerous leaving becomes.
What weapons are in EVE Vanguard?
The Operation Avalon playtest added an SMG, a Shrapnel Cannon, a Laser DMR, a Beam Rifle, a Slug Launcher, and a hand-forged Nova Blade for melee, alongside a mining tool for harvesting ore. Modular chipsets let you switch a weapon's fire mode and damage type mid-fight. Fenris has not published per-weapon stats.
Who develops EVE Vanguard?
EVE Vanguard is made by Fenris Creations, the studio that was CCP Games until it rebranded in May 2026 after going independent. It is published under CCP Games. The team behind it also created EVE Online and the earlier console shooter DUST 514, whose lessons feed directly into Vanguard.
What is Operation Avalon?
Operation Avalon is EVE Vanguard's first timed Alpha playtest, running 7–20 July 2026, free on Steam and the EVE Launcher. It rebuilt the combat, added the Lost Convoy map and Harmonic Bridge extraction, introduced new weapons and escalating Mordu's Legion enemies, and launched the first two-way link with EVE Online through Vanguard Tokens.
How does EVE Vanguard connect to EVE Online?
Vanguard publishes your in-match actions into Quasar, EVE Online's backend, so contracts you complete on the ground count toward the insurgency totals of real EVE solar systems. In return, EVE capsuleers earn Vanguard Tokens and spend them to influence where the Warclone settlement of Avalon is established. It is one shared New Eden, two viewpoints.
